Chinchilla questionssss?
Depends on what you call needy and hard to take care of. They require dust baths (messy, so that answers your next question), full supply of Timothy hay (offered all the time...answers yet another question of yours), tall cage with lots of ledges and places to jump. The Timothy hay can be bought in bales ($18.95 a bale here) but that can last one chinchilla a long time. Chinchilla pellets that are timothy-based should be offered in small amounts once a day. A bag of Oxbow chinchilla pellets is $13 here. I personally think they're fun. They can be difficult to hold because they are jumpy. They are usually great attention seekers, though. Especially when they do 360s in their cage lol. I've heard that they're better in pairs, but if you provide them with plenty of attention, they're usually ok alone. They are not nocturnal, so they do require daylight. Also make sure that it doesn't get over 80degrees where your chinchilla is kept. They do not deal with heat very well.
